New windows could see 75% cut in break-ins

Housebreaking crimes in Perthshire could be cut by up to 75% following the installation of Police approved windows and doors in Council owned homes throughout the region.
The ‘Secured by Design’ windows and doors, accredited by the Association of Chief Police Officers, are being manufactured and installed by Sidey as part of a Perth and Kinross Council programme to upgrade housing stock throughout the Perthshire area.

New Secured By Design Windows

Donald Campbell, Tayside’s Crime Prevention Officer explained:
“An independent evaluation of Glasgow Housing Association stock made after new ‘Secured by Design’ windows and doors were fitted, revealed a 75% drop in housebreaking,
“Sidey is a licensed manufacturer of ‘Secured by Design’ windows and doors. Using these approved products to upgrade Perth and Kinross Council housing stock should help to bring about a significant reduction in crimes of this type.”

Council tenant Mrs Vera Baillie of Bridge of Earn who had ‘Secured by Design’ windows and doors fitted in her home in January said:“I feel secure when I go to bed at night with the new doors and windows. The windows all have locks and the front and back door fit well with no gaps. You can hardly hear any outside noise.”

Sidey continues to set standards – not only by helping to reduce crime, but by achieving high tenant satisfaction rates. The Perth based company recently received the highest tenant satisfaction rate (99.87%) in Scotland.

Michael Dobson, Chairman of Sidey Ltd commented:“We pride ourselves on our high customer satisfaction rates, this 99.87% is a record tenant satisfaction figure for us and Scotland. It reflects the quality and commitment of our workforce,
“The fact that we can help our community and make tenants feel safer in their homes is such an achievement for us. We always aim to get things right, first time, on time, every time.”
“The workmen were great, they left hardly any mess. Sidey did an excellent job,” concluded Mrs Baillie.

The window and door replacement programme commenced in April 2007 and is due to finish in March of this year.
