Landmark for Kitchen Refurbishment Project

Councillors, council tenants and contractors will get together today Thursday 28th February, to mark a landmark in a major refurbishment programme.

A five-year partnership established between Perth & Kinross Council and Perth-based firm Sidey is currently underway that will see approximately 7,700 council homes fitted out with a brand new kitchen in a comprehensive refurbishment programme.

The celebration is being held to mark the completion of the 3,000th kitchen in the scheme.

PKC Kitchen Project

Under the refurbishment project, which began last year, tenants can choose from five kitchen styles, including details such as choices of doors, work tops, handles, floor-coverings and decoration.

Surveys carried out among tenants whose homes have received the new kitchens have resulted in a satisfaction rate of over 98%.

Housing Convener, Councillor Peter Barrett, said: “This is a very practical example of partnership at all levels. It is based on trust and confidence. When the tenants decided to remain tenants of Perth & Kinross Council we made promises about improving their homes. We are now delivering on those promises and I am delighted we have reached this landmark.

“I would like to congratulate Sidey on the excellent work they have done. It is really significant that a local firm won this contract against nation-wide competition, and they are doing a great job. I would also like to thank our tenants, who have worked together with us to move this scheme forward and make it happen.”

Michael Dobson, Sidey’s Chairman commented: “Once again the value of partnerships has been displayed through this particular project. We have received another outstanding tenant satisfaction rate of over 98% - the highest in Scotland.
“I would like to thank Perth & Kinross Council for choosing Sidey for this landmark project and thank the tenants for helping us make this partnership the success it is today”.
