A £3,000,000 project to
replace windows and doors in Council houses in Perth and Kinross has
been completed successfully.
The programme, which began in
2006 and was carried out in partnership with local company Sidey Ltd,
saw 1,280 Council houses fitted with replacement Secured By Design
double glazed windows and doors.
To mark the end of the
successful programme of works, a celebration was held at the Sidey
showrooms in Perth today (Thursday 1 May).
It was attended by the
Council's Convener of Housing & Health, Councillor Peter Barrett, who
said: "I am delighted that this work has come to completion, and that
many tenants are now enjoying a better quality of life because of it.
“This programme of works was
a significant investment for the Council but one which was extremely
worthwhile. We are committed to providing good quality, affordable
housing for our tenants, and to meeting the Scottish Housing Quality
Standard by 2015.
“This was an excellent
example of partnership working. We formally appointed Sidey Ltd to take
forward this programme following a very thorough and competitive
tendering exercise which has ensured we got the best overall package
which balanced quality and price.
"I am delighted that Perth &
Kinross Tenants and Residents Federation have also been closely involved
since the very early stages of the appointment process. It was important
that the people who were going to benefit directly from the programme
were part of the process."
"While a spend of over
£3,000,000 is a large amount, we expect the windows and doors to have a
life of over 20 years and the quality guarantee covers a period of 10
years."
Michael Dobson, Chairman of
Sidey, said: “I would first of all like to thank Perth and Kinross
Council and the Tenants Federation for choosing Sidey to carry out this
project, which has been based upon mutual trust and confidence.
“We are committed to
providing our customers with “Best Value” by delivering quality products
along with the highest level of tenant care. This partnership is a
reflection of that commitment, having received a tenant satisfaction
rate of 99.9% - the highest in Scotland.”
Michael Dobson concluded: “
We are delighted that our services could help Perth & Kinross Council
towards reaching the Scottish Quality Housing Standard, as well as
helping to provide their tenants with better, safer homes”.
