Bubbly Prize for Malawi Appeal
Provost with Councillor Sam Love of NLC & Tom Cavanagh of Sidey
The champagne is on ice for Provost Jim Robertson’s Malawi gala dinner thanks to a sparkling donation from Councillor Sam Love and construction firm Sidey.
The Malawi fundraiser is being held in Motherwell Concert Hall on Friday 30 May with the aim of raising £20,000 to help children in the poverty ravaged African country.
And a Magnum of Moet has now been added to the prizes on offer after Councillor Love won the bottle at Chartered Institute of Housing event.
The prize had been put up by windows and doors specialists Sidey as part of a competition and Councillor Love scooped the prize.
“When I found out I had won the champagne I immediately thought it would make a great prize for the Malawi appeal” said Councillor Love.
“I spoke to Tom Cavanagh at Sidey and he was delighted the prize was going to go to such a worthwhile cause and he also agreed to buy seats at the Gala dinner to further boost the fundraising.
“Many people in Malawi suffer terribly with hunger, poverty, destitution and widespread HIV Aids. The fundraising dinner will help generate much needed money and help make a big difference.”
Provost Robertson added: “This is a great prize to add to what is sure to be a great evening.
“I set up the Provost’s Malawi Project to raise money to set these families on the way to a better life and to help them to help themselves.
“The people are willing to work hard; walk long distances to take their children to school and often just a small amount of money can help set families on the way to a better life.”
Anyone wishing to book a table for the gala dinner or to donate prizes or money should contact the Provost’s office on 01698 302660.
